Bax Music have managed to get hold of the mythical beast that is the Ortega HYDRA: a double-neck electro-acoustic tenor ukulele equipped with a custom-made Ortega preamp. The first neck is fitted with four tenor strings, followed by the second with eight strings and, using the switch of the custom preamp, you can either single out the sound of one of them or combine both for all-out amplified uke sound. This sound stems from a resonance chamber made of ovangkol for warm, room-filling tone and a stylishly finished body with an abalone sound hole rosette and a tortoise-shell ABS binding. To make playing the HYDRA as comfortable as possible, Ortega have mounted a walnut arm rest for hours of pure playing pleasure. The result is a unique little string instrument that comes complete with a matching, rectangular gig bag.
